Community Grant

Purpose: 

The NWTA strongly believes that the relationship between our school community and its surrounding community is important to both our members and their students. As such, the purpose of this grant is to assist and support events and projects that benefit the communities surrounding NWTA members.  

Grant eligibility criteria: 

  • The grant must in some way benefit and foster a connection between staff, students, and their outside communities.  

  • Possible grant recipients could use the grant for:  

  • Events (e.g. food drives). 

  • Projects (e.g. funding for a community playground).  

  • Honoraria (e.g. money to bring in a local artist). 

  • Creative ideas and applications that go beyond the above three definitions are encouraged.   

Ineligible items include:  

  • Events, projects etc. that are only open to the school (school events that invite in the community are allowed) 

  • Grant applications that do not meet the grant eligibility criteria.  

  • Alcohol, tips, gratuities, or tobacco. Exceptions for tobacco can be made if it is intended for First Nation ceremonial use.  

  • Any item or event that does not comply with local laws and/or restrictions.  

  • This grant cannot be used for anything with a political affiliation.   

Application criteria and process 

  • This grant is open to anyone in or near a community with an NWSD school. 

  • An electronic application form will be available online on the NWTA website. 

  • Submissions need to be made at least one month prior to when the grant will be required.   

  • Applicants can only submit one request per year. If their first request is turned down, they may then submit another later.  

  • Application for the 2021-2022 school year is open September 1st 

  • Applications for the 2021-2022 school year close on April 30th  

  • Receipts must be given before funds are released.  

  • Applications must be approved before receipt(s) can be submitted 

  •  Successful applicants are responsible for the purchase of materials and submission of the receipt(s), up to a maximum of $250.
